"New York Contractors and Remodeling" by Jennifer Weldon

In today's uncertain economic times and the upheavals on Wall Street, people are looking to invest their money in other places. One place people are turning to is their home. People are hunkering down in their current homes and up-fitting them so they can enjoy them today and realize gains in the future.

New York contractors have seen a rise in people wanting remodeling projects that center around their family's entertainment. A new trend has been outdoor living areas. Since New York's winter climates are not conducive to entertaining outdoors, other solutions, such as heated patios are being incorporated into backyards. You may find it hard it to believe, but more homeowners are turning to New York contractors to renovate their backyards to include outdoor kitchens, year long swimming pools, heating solutions and more.

New York homeowners are also investigating ways they can make their homes more energy efficient, particularly in the harsh, cold winters. New York heating contractors have to keep up with trends in the market as old heating methods using oil, propane and natural gas are become products of the past. New heating systems include heat pumps, solar panels and highly efficient electric furnaces. These new technologies in heating New York homes and water supplies have realized great savings in home heating costs.

Another hot topic for New York contractors is replacing roofing. Roofing contractors are moving away from traditional asphalt shingle roofing materials and incorporating steel and aluminum roofing in their renovations. These new products provide better protection and do not sacrifice beauty as they are available in a wide variety of colors and styles. Vinyl and powder coating techniques are being used to give a whole new appearance to a steel and aluminum roof.

New York contractors must pay special attention to the freezing and thawing that occur, particularly in the Great Lakes Region such as Buffalo. Rapidly changing weather conditions cause trapped air moisture to freeze and expand. Cracking in concrete is quite common and concrete driveways often suffer the effects. Asphalt driveways are being used more and more as they resist this freezing/thawing cycle better. New York contractors are seeing more homeowners renovate their old, cracked concrete driveways to asphalt driveways. The old concrete is torn up and removed, to be replaced with crushed rock and then asphalt cement. This asphalt cement is more forgiving than Portland cement and will provide longevity to the driveway.

If you are looking to make any of these renovations or take on any home remodeling project, seek the advice of a reputable New York contractor. Not only can they give you helpful suggestions and ideas, their experience in the work and getting the necessary permits will be a valuable resource.
